Q. Where are the schools located?
Both Charlton House School, Nursery and St Mary's College are located on the same 18 acre estate off Midanbury Lane in the Bitterne Park district of Southampton. The College itself has existed here for some 90 years and was founded by the Brothers of Christian Instruction. This beautiful, former manorial estate, was purchased by the Brothers in 1895 after fleeing persecution in France.

Q. How much are the current College fees?
A. College fees are reviewed annually and for the academic year 2012/13 are set at £8400. Charlton House School: £6450
Q. Are Scholarships available?
A. Yes, these are available for a number of academic areas at the College: Maths, Music, Drama,Sports and English. Others are considered depending on the overall strength of the application. The College also awards them on the strength of the entrance examination. The award is normally made for the life time of the student at the school, but is reviewed annually against the students performance data. Parents are welcome to present evidence to support an application ie. reports, certificates, supporting letters, references.
Q. What is a Bursary and could I apply for one?
A. The College does provide financial support to families whose child(ren) would benefit from the services provided. These are 'means tested' and reviewed annually for any changes in circumstance. On occasions these may be single one off payments. Parents may also make application to Foundations outside of the College for support. A list of these can be provided on request.
Q. Where do I purchase the school uniform?
A. The schools Parents Association operate a Uniform Shop on site. The opening times can be made available on request or through the link on the homepage, along with details of the required uniform for their child/student.
Q. I have never considered Independent schooling before. How do I make application?
A. The process is simple. Applications are made direct to the school. We have our own application forms and these are processed by us. Parents showing interest in the College will be provided with details of the Entrance Examination dates in January that year or provided with a date when their child can sit them if applying late or transfering from another school. Q. What do the entrance examinations involve?
A. The College tests three areas of ability, Maths, English and General problem solving ability. This is achieved by using standardised NFER tests. Although the College prefers a written form of assessment they can be undertaken on-line for students unable to attend the examinations ie. overseas candidates
