At St Mary’s College we enjoy making, listening to and appreciating music of all genres.
As a continuation of Key Stage 2, every child in years 7-9 studies music in Key Stage 3. Music is studied within a historical and cultural setting. We listen to European and World Music and analyse it according to the requirements of the National Curriculum. The rudiments of theory are also studied together with basic composition using ICT. In Years 10 and 11 students have the opportunity to study music to GCSE as part of the options scheme.
We strongly encourage students to become involved in making music outside the classroom. We have a choir and instrumental groups who perform at many activities throughout the year.
These activities include musical evenings, seasonal festivals, choral services, and religious services held both in College and at outside venues. There are also opportunities for students to attend concerts, operas and musicals both locally and in London.
