Key Stage 3
ICT is timetabled at Key Stage 3 and taught formally using 'Dynamic Learning', an interactive piece of software that allows students to progress at their own pace. Assessments are built into the software to allow staff to make firm judgements about their progress.
Information and Communication Technology is used across the curriculum for a variety of well-established purposes. Students are expected to demonstrate skills in three areas:
* communicating information
* handling information
* using and evaluating appropriate software.
Key Stage 4
At Key Stage 4 ICT is delivered through the broader curriculum, allowing students to apply ICT in context and maximise their time on the early entry GCSE subjects.
Students are encouraged to use ICT to produce reports and projects, to search for information and in problem solving.
Topics covered include Word Processing, Mail Merge, Spreadsheets, Databases, Data logging, Graphics, and use of the Internet.
The College has a range of hardware in different departments as well as a networked computer suite and other stand-alone machines. The network supports a variety of applications based around Microsoft Office software. Access to the Internet is via Broadband capability.
The Computer facility is open at lunchtimes for students’ use, and there are also opportunities for them to acquire considerable expertise in the management, maintenance and development of the network.
