Yr 4 lead the Founder’s Day Mass

This year it was the turn of Year 4 to lead our Founder’s day Mass. They acted out the story of the Founder – it had never been done before.27th.Nov Clown (140)

Founder’s day

Charlton children had a wonderful time on Founder’s Day as they played the year 6 games and, thanks to Father Michael’s birthday celebrations, were visited by Crazy M, the clown. The smiles on their faces tell the whole story.27th.Nov Clown (109)27th.Nov Clown (205)27th.Nov Clown (143)

No Limits: Self Esteem and Anti-bullying workshops

Yr 8 No Limits (4)

St. Mary’s College is very lucky to have a team of youth workers from No Limits come into school to run a series of three workshops for Years 7 – 10.

The workshops focus on raising the students self esteem, developing positive relationships within the year group and enabling the students to stand up against low level bulling.  The activities our students are participating in range from affirmations written in full size drawing of themselves to assertiveness role play.

Judging by the photos of yesterdays workshop all our students seem to be enjoying themselves completely!

College Sports Day 2011

Sports day 2011

On Monday 4th July St Mary’s College held their annual sports day at the sports centre in Bassett.  The weather for once was on our side and made it a very warm and memorable occasion; apart from those students competing in events in excess of 400m!  All students participated in at least one event, with many competing in two track, two field and the relay.  There were numerous personal best times and distances with the following students beating previous College records:

Dylan Kirkwood – 26.72 (Javelin) – Year 7

Will Hughes – 23.01 (Discus) – Year 7

Sunil Pallikadavath – 16.62 (Discus) – Year 8

Abigail Hatton – 2.05 (600m) – Year 8

Emily Bulkeley – 5.87 (Shot) – Year 8

Aimee Kerens – 12.42 (Discus) – Year 8

Laura Lister – 8.88 (Discus) – Year 9

Many of the staff officiating were thoroughly enjoying basking in the sun content with their roles.  However, this was proven to be rather short lived when they remembered the final relay race which they were soon to be involved in – taking on the student houses.  There was no need to worry though, as one of the staff team finished 1st with their nearest rival finishing over 20m behind.  Obviously, they felt a little bad, so their other team slowed down accordingly allowing the three houses to overtake to finish last.  A valuable lesson was learnt by all, be humble in victory and gracious in defeat.

Congratulations to the overall winning house St George’s, with St Patricks’ finishing 6 points behind in second, and St Michael’s only a further 2 points back.
