SMCPA – Recipe Book

The SMPA would like to ask for your support with a very simple request. We are compiling a Recipe Book to sell in order to fund future projects around the school.  With so many families and different nationalities we could end up with a variety of recipes which would be great to share.

As this is going to be Book One: Main Courses (with a possibility of Book Two: Deserts, to follow) all we ask is that during half term week you could find a recipe for a main course.  It might be a family favourite.

Please either download the  recipe pro-forma from this blog and email back to smcpa@stmaryscollege.co.uk, or send it to school with your child’s name and year, or your name by Friday 5th November.  If you would like to send in a photo too, please do so.

Charlton’s World Faith Week

Charlton House pupils enjoyed watching an indian dance this week as part of their World Faith focus week. Sister Karuna, from Park Place, demonstrated gracefully how dance can be used as a form of prayer. A number of children have now been inspired to develop their own dance actions to some of the songs we sing.

Many thanks to Father Andrews and Sister Karuna for coming to Charlton and sharing their time with the pupils.

College Speech Night 2010

_MG_8912

The Speech Day remains an essential feature of the College calender and celebrates the success of our students over the previous year. The presentation of Certificates and trophies was made by Andrew Pate, a former student of the College and now a Broadcaster and Journalist for Meridian Television. He commented very positively on the broad range of achievements that were awarded and the outstanding level of academic success the College enjoys. Thanks go to Brother Francis Chairing the event this year, Mr Lickley for his comprehensive review of the College year and our Head and Deputy Head students (pictured below) for their well read contributions.

The College once more celebrated the fantastic GCSE results achieved by its students, with 94% 5* A-C ( including English and Maths). There were many notable individual achievements as a record 33% gained 13 GCSE’s! The consistently high pass rates in English Language (100% *A-C) and Maths ( 97% *A-C) does mean the College is always set to perform well against all other schools Nationally (58%) and locally(Hampshire -60% and Southampton 47%), where many students fail to pass the core subjects. Just as important to us are the other achievements, raising £10,000 for the Brothers schools in Haiti, our successful trips to Senegal, Germany and France or the massive Sporting success of our teams and individuals. The College dominates the Cross Country scene with no fewer than 12 students selected to represent Hampshire. Twenty of our students won medals, 10 of them Gold at the City Athletics Championships, with four going on to represent Southampton at County level. All this in a school of 180 students!
