School Entrance Examination Saturday 9th Jan.

Due to the current weather conditions the scheduled examination on Saturday has been cancelled. The school has contacted all parents affected. The re-scheduled examination will take place on Saturday 16th Jan. at 9.00am. Parents unable to attend should contact the school office.

We look forward to seeing you then.

Schools Update 8th January

Please be advised that the final decision for the opening of both Charlton House and St Mary’s College will be taken on Sunday and posted on the blog by 4.00pm.

Currently the schools intention is to open on Monday 11th January with the following conditions:

 Site Access

  •  Entry to the site should be made only through the ‘top’ gate ( Mousehole Lane) and exit right onto Midanbury Lane towards Cobden Ave.
  •  The expected increase in the volume of traffic through the site means we must operate  a ‘kiss and drop’ routine. Children for Charlton should exit vehicles on the main drive above the Charlton entrance and enter the school building immediately through the front door ( this includes the Nursery). College students can be dropped at the steps above the playground and enter the school immediately by the Chapel Door.

Dress

  • Please make sure students have full uniform and suitable sturdy footwear. Warm coats and gloves etc are advisable.

Site Safety

  • The conditions underfoot are hazardous and therefore students will be expected to stay indoors for the day and until conditions improve.

Year 11 GCSE ICT examination

Clearly the school is hoping to operate normally on Monday but if conditions necessitated a further closure then candidates for this examination who are able, should try to attend. The examination board will not cancel or re-schedule the paper but simply defer your entry until the Summer session otherwise. The examination will start at 1.30 pm and finish at 2.45 pm. Brothers Francis and James will act as invigilators if no other staff are able to get in.

School Update for Friday 8th Jan

Please be advised that both Charlton House and St Mary’s College will be closed on Friday 8th Jan. The continued freezing conditions have made local roads both unsafe and impassable. Midanbury Lane is dangerous and several vehicles collided during the course of our own inspection! Calls to staff in outlying areas have also suggested that a significant number of teachers cannot guarantee reaching the school. The forecasts do not appear promising but I would ask that parents continue to use the blog site to keep up-to-date. Information will be posted over the weekend regarding Monday. The forecasts suggest that conditions are set to worsen over the weekend, this could cause further disruption.

For Year 6 Charlton Parents whose children are due to sit the Entrance Examination .We will advise tomorrow as to whether these will be postponed until the 16th Jan.

Schools Update

Please be advised that due to the forecast freezing temperatures and further snow in significant parts of the schools catchment area  the decision has been made to close both Charlton House and the College on Thursday 7th Jan. The schools do not wish to put parents or students at undue risk given the poor weather conditions. The school blog will be up-dated again on Thursday afternoon/evening once further assessments have been made.
