AGM – 2009

A note for your diaries. The school’s AGM will be held on Monday 5th October at 7.30 pm in the College Library.

We hope you can attend this AGM and future SMCPA meetings. Your views and ideas as parents are greatly valued and prove essential to the successful running of the Parents Association, which, thanks to the dedication and time given by parents and staff alike, has been consistently active in improving the day-to-day life of the students at St Mary’s.

There is little doubt that the students at the College are our greatest assest. The Open Evening relies heavily on the input of students across all year groups. The Year 11, supported by students in year 10, were praised by visitors as outstanding ambassadors for the College. They gave guided tours around the departments, answered questions and gave ‘running commentaries’ about their experiences at the school. Our thanks goes to all those students who contributed to the success of the evening.

Anti-Bullying Awareness event

The school is currently using the services of  Southampton Youth Support Team ( ‘No Limits’), to raise our students awareness to the issue regarding Bullying. They have been invited to talk to students in years 7 to 10 and create a forum in which students can feel comfortable to discuss the issues around bullying at school or within the broader community. Bullying is sadly a common feature of most school or work place environments and has certainly been experienced by most of us at some times in our lives. Knowing who we can talk to in confidence, having strategies to cope and creating an environment where it is not tolerated will help those who are especially vunerable. The school operates an Anti-Bullying policy and draws on the experience of organisations like ‘No Limits’ to reinforce its message.
