College Prom 2009

The School Prom has become an important part of school life and is seen by many as an act of ‘moving on’. It is for this reason that parents swelled  the ranks of spectators last night outside Chilworth Manor Hotel. The arrival of students in Stretch Limos, Classic cars and even a Scaffolding Lorry created the start to a wonderful evening. The year 11 have made a great impression on the College and ended their time with us in style. My thanks go to Fiona Thompson for her work in organising the event and the parents and friends who supported her throughout.

Thorpe Park Visit 2009

The Thorpe park trip has become an annual event in the St Mary’s calendar and always proves to be a great day out for the students. This year the students enjoyed some fantastic weather and although the park was busy many were able to try out the new rides and the usual favourites. I would like to extend my thanks to all the staff that supported the day and to the students themselves who always make the event such a success. I hope the pictures give you some sense of the strong community spirit that exists amongst the students.

German Exchange 2009

This was St Mary’s College’s first German Exchange visit with the Landkreis Hildesheim and it looks set to be the start of an enduring and happy Anglo-German relationship.  The 17 student participants returned safely to England at the end of May with many a tale of how much they had enjoyed their time with their host family and on the many organised visits.  For most the trip to Heide Park Theme Park was the best part of the Exchange, for others the trip to Autostadt, home of Volkswagen, where students got a ‘behind-the-scenes’ tour of the robotic production line and an up-close look at some of their showcase cars, such as the amazing Bugatti pictured below.   Friendships were forged and tears were inevitably shed as goodbyes were exchanged.  However, the goodbyes were really just auf Wiedersehens, as the German group is with us at St Mary’s at the end of June. The Group
